To Affiliate or Not To Affiliate…That is the Question.

Affiliate Marketing: Why is it One of the Most Cost-Effective Ways to Advertise your Business?
Ever heard of affiliate programs? These are a form of Internet marketing that reward the affiliates for driving traffic to the owner of a product or service in the form of qualified prospects. The owner pays the affiliate a commission on each lead the affiliate sends that is converted into a sale. Simply put, it’s about paying commissions to people who help you make sales. It’s that easy. NOT!
Affiliate marketing has its ups and downs. It could be draining if you are not armed with updated information and the technical how-tos. But this article’s sole objective is to explain a bit about affiliate marketing.
Remember, there are two sides to affiliate marketing and you can be hugely successful on either side. You can be an affiliate for one or more marketers and get paid commissions on every sale. Or, you can run your own affiliate program and recruit affiliates to market your goods and, of course, pay them a commission. Either way, it’s a win-win proposition as neither side has to spend any money (other than the advertising you do) until a sale occurs.
Here are the reasons why web marketers go ga-ga over affiliate programs as a form of Internet Marketing.

Many are afraid to start a home based business because of the capital required and the need to come up with products or services that you may not have access to. In affiliate marketing, you don’t have to spend much to start raking in moolah. Just put up a web site, load the marketing materials, images and affiliate links that are provided by the owner of the affiliate program and start advertising your new business.
No Inventory Necessary
Product management and inventory fuss can be very stressful. There is no inventory required in affiliate marketing. The merchant does the maintenance required. If their product requires shipping and the collection of sales tax, they take care of all that. Your store is totally virtual.
Unlimited Income Potential Through Leverage
When you have a paid job, your monthly income mainly relies on whether you go to work or not. If you run your own affiliate program, your affiliates (after you provide them with your ad copy and links) just lead traffic to your site without having to lift a finger. Though not every web marketer earns a limitless income, it still is a fact that all the necessary elements for the advertiser or Internet marketer to be successful are all there.

With affiliate marketing, you are dealing with a global market place. All you have to do is choose a niche product and prepare all the necessary tools for your affiliates to lead traffic to your product or service - from just about anywhere in the world. If you’re functioning as a affiliate, then you take those tools and start marketing. You can literally get a site up and running in less than a day. Many affiliate programs offer ready-to-run, hosted sites. You just add the marketing and advertising.
Low Risk
The very main reason for Internet marketers’ enthusiasm with affiliate marketing is its low risk factor. Especially for those with low budgets set aside for advertising, affiliate marketing is just the way to do it. The risk is low for either side of the affiliate program. The affiliates risk nothing except the advertising they do, and much of that is free these days. The owner of the affiliate program risks nothing either. He only pays his affiliates when they sell, at which time he earns, too.
No Store Hours
With affiliate marketing, your business works every single second of the day while targeting a worldwide market! Affiliates all over the world are selling your products and services 24-7 from web sites that never sleep. What could be better than that?
But all of these attributes will be put to waste if you don’t have the right niche product and all the other important tools in place to make it big in affiliate marketing, i.e., management software, good ad copy and a well-SEO-ed website. So, you’d better work on this first before ever considering those benefits.
And NEVER . . . NEVER start an affiliate program without the proper infrastructure and management processes in place. If you fail to pay your affiliates, they will soon abandon you. And rightfully so. If you try to start an affiliate program without the proper foundation, you could easily become overwhelmed. The time to build that foundation is BEFORE the house arrives.
Likewise, if you plan to be an affiliate for someone else, make sure THEY have the appropriate systems in place to ensure that you will be paid and track your customers flawlessly. Ask them what they use to manage their affiliates. Then research that product so you know exactly how it works.
