Inside Copywriting: Why Writing Sales Copy Is The Perfect Work-From-Home “Job”
(presented by www.data-entry-jobs.net - data entry jobs)

Quit Your Job: Make money from home!

By Ryan Healy

I love copywriting, although I stumbled upon it quite by accident.

I was working for Merrill Lynch, helping to manage 401(k) plans, when I was approached by the owner of a homeschooling company who asked me to write copy for him. His company was growing and he wanted desperately to free up his time to do other things.

I said yes, and I’m so glad I did. Here’s why.

Freelance copywriting is the best work-from-home “job” I could possibly think to have.

Reason #1: Copywriting gives you control of your time.

This is probably the number one reason folks are drawn to a career in copywriting. They don’t want to work for “the man” anymore. They want to have time flexibility and be in control of their own schedule.

Sure, you have deadlines, but you’re in control of when you set those deadlines. If a project doesn’t jibe with your schedule, just say no.

I must say, time flexibility scores big for me, more than money even. One of my clients actually hired me as an employee this past July. I agreed to a 30-day trial. After my time was completed, I went straight back to freelancing. I just couldn’t handle the rigidity of an 8-5 job.

Reason #2: Copywriting pays well.

Most writers earn chicken feed. Seriously.

I remember when I was writing articles for my high school paper and investigating if I wanted to pursue a career in journalism. I discovered journalists have the privilege of working on extremely tight deadlines and earning shockingly low levels of pay.

The same goes for most other types of writing. But writing sales copy is different because you can charge based on the value you create for a business.

If you write a letter that pulls in $50,000 or $100,000 or even $500,000 or more, then you can easily charge $5,000 to $10,000 and up for that letter. You see, it’s not how many pages you write, but how much profit you generate.

Reason #3: You position yourself at (or near) the top of the food chain.

What do I!

Here’s the deal: The people who get paid the most are those who can close sales and bring in the money. This is why top salesmen (and women!) are compensated so well.

The big difference between a salesman and a copywriter is that the copywriter has more leverage. His letter can “visit” ten thousand people a day or more, while the salesman can only deliver a few sales pitches a day.

Now, if you are at (or near) the top of the food chain when it comes to business, what does that ultimately mean for you?

It means you’re in control of how much you want to earn. It means that you can start your own direct response company down the road, if you desire. It means you’re never tied to any one client because you are equipped to make sales, in good times and bad. It means you have the ultimate freedom to decide your destiny.

No more worrying about getting laid off or prospecting or any other activity you don’t enjoy. Need money? Write another letter. It’s that simple.

Whether you’re considering a career in copywriting or not, I hope this brief article has helped you understand why being a freelance copywriter is so appealing to so many people (including me).
